The artist, Paige Frieda-Summers, is the beautiful creative that captured my mom’s swagger. Love & Dignity Goods by Indigo Wears, inspired by my mother, Sonia Mercedes Holst-Thomas, now living with dementia. I wanted a way to honor her legacy as a vibrant, thoughtful, and determined single mother raising two girls on her own and doing the damn thing. Now she can hardly remember our names, but I remember her essence, energy, and her love for everyone she encountered. All of her repetitive questions, sweet memories of horse and cart riding in Bethlem, St. Croix, and her hilariously funny dialogue, and memoryisms (No rock? No roll, and the like) — will be showing up in these goods; she cracks me up even in this state. You’ve got to give yourself permission to laugh and enjoy the glimpses you get to experience.
This is my way of showing her love and dignity while raising money for her on-going care, it’s expensive ya’ll. I hope you’ll enjoy what I’ve come up with, there are more Love & Dignity Goods to share in 2022.
